Intertextuality

Intertextuality is a link between two media text (not always the same media), this can include parody, plagerism and even quotations.

Intertextuality and the smashing pumpkins 

The smashing pumpkins music video for "tonight, tonight" shows clear intertextual reference to "A Trip to the Moon", a 1902 French silent film directed by Georges Méliès.

Intertextuality and Lady Gaga 

In lady gaga and beyonce's music video for telephone there is clear intertextual references to the film KILL BILL with the use of the iconic "pussy wagon" as the get away car.

Intertextuality and Jessie J

Jessie-J's music video for "whos laughing now" features a young actor that ressembles the Jessie-J and acts out a part as the singer, this has intertextual refferences to many of Sias music videos where she has young dancer who represents herself.

Intertextuality and P!NK

In P!nks music video for "so what" we see intertextual references to the 1987 film "cant buy me love" with the act of driving the lawnmower down the road. she uses this inan ironic fashion as if to mock the love story.

Audiences enjoy intertextuality as it gives them something to look for. By looking for and noticing connections between the two pieces of media, it gives the audience a sense of achievement.
