MUSIC CHANNELS
MTV (Music television) was first broadcasted on August 1st, 1981, and is available on Sky, Virgin, Freeview and BT.
Their target audience is typically young adults
with interest in music, and everything it involves,
rather than just showing music videos, they also
have interviews with featured artists, commentaries,
music-related newscast etc. Although aimed at young
adults, it is viewed most frequently viewed on BBC1
(according to most recent BARB statistics- August 2015)
which is a channel not aimed at younger adults,
therefore commenting on the way Mtv has brought
the enjoyment of music to a new generation. It is clear that
Mtv is aimed, primarily, at young adults, as the
bold colours and graphics used between shows, and the
wild and upbeat nature of the show evokes a
certain youthful quality. Young adults also
account for the highest users of mobile devices, which Mtv
is available on, showing that this is their target audience. Mtv’s most frequently played genre is pop and house music, which is statistically listened to most by young adults, this caters to their needs and desire to listen to this genre, which gives them a chance to listen to new, up-coming songs.
It has since become a highly televised, and entirely enjoyable platform for all types of audiences to view and consume media in their desired format; where some choose to use the Mtv app, others would be happier to consume Mtv media by watching the shows via a television, or device, this has enabled Mtv to become the highest rated media platform industry channel across America and England.
